Social Impact Award

Synopsis:

Social Impact Award, founded in 2009, runs education and incubation programs in more than 15 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia to support early-stage social entrepreneurs in developing and implementing innovative business solutions to tackle the most important societal challenges of our times.

Challenge:

Raising awareness among young people and providing education on social entrepreneurship, creating a community of young innovators and supporting the teams. We believe in the high potential of Turkish youth and with SIA we create a new career path by investing in them through their journey in becoming social entrepreneurs.

Transformation:

SIA consists of different phases. Program starts with a kick-off event followed by a workshop series in order to create public awareness and provide basic education on social innovation and impact. As the second phase, SIA opens an online call for project submissions throughout Turkey. After the jury selection of finalists, incubation phase begins with an intense 3-day bootcamp. The finalists are supported by 1:1 mentoring sessions, incubation workshops and networking events until their final pitching. In 2019 SIA Turkey awarded each 3 jury winner with 10.000 TL seed funding. Also the 3 jury winning teams and one community award winning team gets the chance of attending SIA SUMMIT with the participation of all SIA winners and running teams around the globe.

Impact:

Due to the SIA Global Impact Report, throughout 2018, SIA Global supported 1.000+ young teams to create and implement innovative social business ideas. 80% of the SIA participants 2018 aim at having a positive impact with their venture, even if it delays their studies or careers.

SIA Turkey 2019 supported not only the finalists, but the 100+ participants attended the public workshops for gaining awareness on social innovation. The intensive incubation program helped 10 finalist teams acquire the necessary skill sets in order to turn their enterprises into sustainable and profitable businesses and become fresh members of Turkish social entrepreneurship ecosystem.
